Alexandra Dovgan

Beethoven, Schumann, Prokofiev
Thursday 17 April - 20h30
Conservatoire Darius Milhaud

A rare prodigy, pianist Alexandra Dovgan burst onto the scene at the tender age of ten, in the Moscow Grand Piano Competition, winning the Grand Prix in 2018, and has been filling concert halls all over Europe ever since.

Singing her praises in 2020, Grigory Sokolov said “There are things that cannot be taught and learned. Alexandra Dovgan’s talent is exceptionally harmonious. Her playing is honest and concentrated. I predict a great future for her.” The young Russian prodigy brings us a programme of three sonatas: Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 31, one of the last pieces he composed for piano; Schumann’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in G minor, of which his wife Clara said that his “entire being comes through in this piece”; and between post-romanticism and modernity, Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in D minor.
