Monteverdi, Vêpres de la Vierge

I Gemelli ensemble, Emiliano Gonzalez Toro
Baroque music
Wednesday 16 April - 8:30 pm
Grand Théâtre de Provence

In only a few years, the I Gemelli ensemble, has made a name for itself on the music scene.

The I Gemelli ensemble is quite recent but it has, in a short time, become one of the greatest formations in the area of historically informed performances. It specialises in 17th century vocal music, led by Emiliano Gonzalez Toro, a “lead singer” whose delivery focuses greatly on declamation. Dating from 1610, the Vespro della Beata Vergine is Monteverdi’s first piece of sacred music, a brimming composition between the Renaissance and the baroque, that swings from spare precision to unbridled virtuosity.
