Just a century after the death of Camille Saint-Saëns, the prestigious trio of conductor François-Xavier Roth, violinist Renaud Capuçon and pianist Bertrand Chamayou pay tribute to the French composer’s immense career that spanned from 19th century romanticism to 20th century modernism.
He admired Franz Liszt intensely and mirrored his career as a musical prodigy and composer, while echoing the music of the time in his work. Popular French songs resonate through Rhapsodie d’Auvergne, we hear a swinging Hispanic influence in the Havanaise and there is a certain orientalism to his Piano Concerto n°5.
