Julia Hagen, Gábor Takács-Nagy

Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra
Monday 21 April - 20h30
Grand Théâtre de Provence

This year, one of the world’s most eminent chamber music orchestras, the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, led by musical director Gábor Takács-Nagy, invites cellist Julia Hagen for a performance of Elgar’s magnificent Cello Concerto.

The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra represents a sort of rite of passage for today’s best young musicians. In fact, it is made up of artists who have followed the festival’s training programmes and have gone on to join world-renowned international ensembles. This year in Aix, the orchestra accompanies Julia Hagen, one of the greatest cellists of her generation, who also happens to be a Verbier “graduate” and recent recipient of the festival’s Jean-Nicolas Firmenich prize. Her warm, expressive playing will work
wonderfully on Elgar’s, distant, melancholic Cello Concerto.
