Austrian violinist and conductor Thomas Zehetmair, considered by the New York Times to be one of the world’s greatest performers of Bach, took over as conductor of the Orchestre national d’Auvergne last year, after a successful run at the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris.
It is only natural then, that this year, he has chosen to play and conduct Bach’s two virtuoso Violin Concertos, imbued with Vivaldi’s Italian verve. The maestro is also a reputed and eclectic performer of chamber music, and will finish off the programme with a superb violin interpretation of a piece that he has played many times, Brahms’ Quintet.
