Renaud Capuçon just recently took over the helm of the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne, and this evening brings us an original programme that intersperses each of Vivaldi’s famed Four Seasons, with the Concertos pour violon by Guadeloupe-born composer Chevalier de Saint-George, the first classical composer of African ancestry, famed as much for his fencing talent as his virtuoso violin playing and his compositions, who counted Marie-Antoinette among his fans.
Capuçon’s instrument sings, sparkles and catches fire as he brings a truly personal interpretation to these contrasting pieces, making this a must-see performance.
