Concert

Elisabeth Leonskaja

Schubert
Wednesday 03 April - 20h30
Grand Théâtre de Provence

At nearly eighty years of age, one of the world’s greatest pianists will gift us with a recital entirely dedicated to Schubert’s ever-changing and vagabond body of work.

Elisabeth Leonskaja was born in Georgia and was one of the rare stage partners of the great Sviatoslav Richter, who admired her “imperious, tender, low-key yet tempestuous talent” (Le Figaro). A child prodigy, her talent tends to shine in the greatest romantic pieces. She has chosen to perform two of Schubert’s most radiant pieces: his Piano Sonata in D major, composed while on holiday during the summer of 1825 and his Piano Sonata in B-flat major, D.960 (1828), a light-filled, dazzling swan song.
