Carte blanche à Renaud Capuçon
For the grand finale of the Munich Philharmonic’s residence and of the festival itself, Lahav Shani will conduct Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 and the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Philip Glass, accompanied by violinist Renaud Capuçon.
Written forty years ago, the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Philip Glass, who is celebrating his 90th birthday in 2027, was the composer’s first incursion into the “pure” symphonic world, the first of many. This is one of Glass’s most well-known pieces, blending unbridled lyricism with a hypnotic beat. Renaud Capuçon is deeply familiar with it, as he recorded a version in 2017 in tandem with Dennis Russell Davies. To follow, we will be treated to Bruckner’s flamboyant romanticism from a repertoire that is at the very core of the identity of the Munich Philharmonic. Lahav Shani breathes agility, clarity and fluidity into a piece whose monumental blast puts every orchestral timbre to work.
