L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Munich
Following unforgettable concerts, musical promenades throughout Aix-en-Provence and a wonderful jazz evening on the terraces of the Grand Théâtre de Provence in 2026, the musicians of the great Bavarian orchestra are returning in 2027 for four action-packed days. They will present a thrilling programme and engage with the people of Aix of all ages. What a joy to see them again! “Viel Freude!”.
Founded in 1893, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra (Münchner Philharmoniker) ranks amongst Europe’s leading orchestras. Its name is synonymous with a long tradition of excellence and a varied and demanding repertoire. Gustav Mahler, Bruno Walter, Sergiu Celibidache and Christian Thielemann have all left their mark on this orchestra, which is over a century old. It is now up to Lahav Shani, the new chief conductor – well known to music lovers in Aix-en-Provence – to take the reins of the Munich musicians.
The orchestra is firmly established in the Bavarian capital, where it enjoys exceptional popularity. This is no doubt partly due to its original educational and intergenerational programmes, which take the Münchner Philharmoniker off the beaten track.
Concerts for children, young people and schools, public dress rehearsals, workshops and concerts in unusual venues enable the public to discover classical music and the workings of a major symphony orchestra in a different light.
