Following the brass section in 2026, a string quartet and the percussion section of the Munich Philharmonic will take centre stage in a programme dedicated to two pioneers of American minimal music, Philip Glass and Steve Reich.

The Munich Philharmonic’s percussion section is part of Germany’s rich musical tradition, and its woody, rounded and sombre sound lends a very distinctive colour to the works by Mahler and Strauss. The ensemble, shaped by the successive conductors who have led the orchestra – including Sergiu Celibidache and, currently, Lahav Shani – is characterised by its precision, clarity and synchronisation, and blends organically into the orchestral sound. This concert offers the chance to discover them, on their own and in the spotlight, performing a different repertoire: it is bound to be spectacular!
