Gidon Kremer
Musicians' homage: the Trio Op. 50 by Tchaikovsky, sub-titled “In the memory of a great artist”, was composed in the 1880s with his recently deceased friend Nikolai Rubinstein in mind. The loss inspired the Russian to create an intimate piece, a masterpiece of intense lyricism. The same urge to remember presides over the composition of Tickmayer's Trio con echi da Monteverdi , to whom we owe pieces in memory of Lutoslawski or Tarkovsky and whose predilection is the dialogue between past and present (Bach, Haydn, Bach/Schoenberg). In reference to “Lasciatemi morire” , the famous Lamento d'Arianna , this recent Trio also honours the memory of Gidon Kremer's mother, Marianne Kremer. It takes its place naturally in the recital by the great Latvian violinist and conductor, a faithful defender of Tickmayer's work.
Kremer is joined by two talented young musicians, the pianist Khatia Buniatishvili and the cellist Giedre Dirvanauskaite , with whom he has worked regularly over the past few years (for example on the Kissine/Tchaikovsky recording for ECM, that dates from August 2010).
