James Ehnes
At the end of 2009, when the Canadian James Ehnes' recording of the 24 Caprices by Paganini came out, the musical world unanimously saluted his exceptional technical prowess and his profound musicality. The violinist was returning to the works that had launched his musical career in 1995 ( Gramophone magazine gave him a glowing write-up at the time), deepening his approach with increased maturity.
In the meantime, he has performed with everyone who is anybody in the music world in terms of orchestras and conductors, while building a well-developed discography which includes a number of Bach recordings (he recorded the complete Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord as well as all of the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin on Analekta). Bach and Paganini naturally coexist in the programme for the recital he will give at the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume: it will include Partita No. 2 in D minor , an extract from the Caprices (as the concert's limited time frame does not permit a complete performance). Bartok's Sonata for Solo Violin , the composer's final work, will complete the evening.
