Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester - Leif Ove Andsnes
The Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester , one of the world's premier youth orchestras due to its artistic excellence and professionalism, dedicates this first evening in Aix to Beethoven's Seventh Symphony , that Wagner referred to as the “apotheosis of dance”, and the slightly older Piano Concerto No. 4.
The GMJO and Herbert Blomstedt are joined by the Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes , who is celebrating his twenty-five years on the stage in 2012. Andsnes has received numerous Grammy nominations and won the Peer Gynt Prize in 2007, and is currently on a “Beethoven Journey”, planned over several years and based on the five concertos and the Choral fantasy, that brings him to Europe and America, and during which he will notably direct the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from the piano.
