Orchestre de l'Opéra National de Paris - Philippe Jordan
The young conductor Philippe Jordan (he is still in his thirties), made a name for himself with internationally renowned orchestras from the very start of his career. His nomination as Musical Director of the Orchestre de l'Opéra national de Paris in 2009 was welcomed enthusiastically by the musicians in the orchestra. He had already conducted them in 2004 with Ariane in Naxos and with Rosenkavalier in 2006. The musicians' level of trust and confidence led to his contract being renewed at the Opéra national de Paris until July 2018. From the 2014-2015 season onwards, this young conductor will take the reins of the Vienna Symphony orchestra.
In the middle of performances of Wagner's complete Ring Cycle from January to June 2013 at the Opéra Bastille, he will be rehearsing with the Orchestre de l'Opéra in Aix for a concert. The programme includes two composers who were in their thirties at the time also: Strauss and his extraordinarily orchestrated symphonic poem A hero's life , and Beethoven , with the Triple Concerto. The first depicts the composer himself, with multiple repetitions of previous pieces (« The hero's works of peace ») using a very innovative harmonic language where we can already hear the beginnings of the operas of the following decade such as Salome and Elektra. The second proposes a rare combination, a concerto with three soloists, contemporary with other great works such as the Piano Concerto n° 4 (1805-1806) and the Concerto for violin (1806). The trio formed by the cellist Marie Elisabeth Hecker and the pianist Martin Helmchen, who live and work together, with the violinist Veronika Eberle, brings a youthful boost of German talent to the piece.
