Concert

Matthias Goerne

Despite the fact that he shines in the opera, Matthias Goerne is above all a lieder singer, who trained with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, one of the best singers of the genre. So it is impossible for the baritone from Weimar to ignore Schubert, the undeniable reference in the area. In parallel with the numerous concerts for which he travels all over the world, a few years ago he set himself a huge task with the support of Harmonia Mundi: a big “Schubert Edition” in (at least) eleven volumes, the first CDs of which have already been released to critical acclaim (10 from Classica , Editor's Choice from Gramophone , “Choc” from Le Monde de la Musique...). On this subject, he confides: “I have made Winterreise, Schwanengesang and Die schöne Müllerin [...] my own since I was a young man; they have become part of my being”. At the Easter Festival, Die schöne Müllerin from 1823, the first of three Schubertian cycles will be performed with Pierre-Laurent Aimard, who is as comfortable with Schubert as he is with the contemporary repertoire: the duo has already gained public recognition at the Bozar in Brussels and the Aldeburgh Festival.
