European Union Youth Orchestra, Vladimir Ashkenazy
In 1976 Joy and Lionel Bryer began plans for the first ever pan-European youth orchestra, with an ambition that is rare: to create an orchestra that would serve as a metaphor for the founding principles of the European Union, of unity in diversity. The EUYO has partnered with some of the greatest names in classical music, particularly its three notable Music Directors: Claudio Abbado , Bernard Haitink , and current Music Director Vladimir Ashkenazy.
The great Russian pianist and conductor has invited Francesco Piemontesi to join them, a performer with whom he shares the same level of sincere humility and musical intelligence. They will play Beethoven 's Piano Concerto N° 4 , full of mysterious serenity and Mendelssohn 's joyful “Italian” Symphony.
