John Eliot Gardiner - Monteverdi

Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria

Sir John Eliot Gardiner comes back to Aix Easter Festival with Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in patria , one of the three great operas by Claudio Monteverdi, composed in the twilight of his life and performed in Venice for the first time in 1640. Monteverdi, unanimously considered to be the father of baroque music, brought the shaping of music through words to its highest point using elements that would last until the 19th century.

The conductor, with a career that spans fifty years, directs the well-named Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists , who are performing this piece for the first time. A true encounter at the summit!
