BACH, St Matthew Passion

Collegium vocale Gent, Philippe Herreweghe

The precepts of the Collegium Vocale Gent , set up in 1970 by Philippe Herreweghe with the aim of rethinking baroque music, are authenticity and vocal clarity. This choir, in association with its orchestra that plays on original instruments of the time, rapidly became a global reference for Bach , by modernising the performance of his work and bringing back the original dynamics.

With its founder wielding the baton, the Collegium Vocale will perform the Saint Matthew Passion. Bach builds a poignant tragedy through the extraordinary interlacing of the choirs (borrowed from Protestant hymns), solo arias and recitatives. A universal masterpiece by top-notch performers!
