DESPERATE LOVERS
LE CONCERT D'ASTRÉE, EMMANUELLE HAÏM
Alongside Sandrine Piau and Tim Mead , two of the world's greatest Baroque voices, Emmanuelle Haïm takes her orchestra on a voyage of discovery of love and passion, magnified by Handel's operas. Jealousy, forgiveness, devouring passion and sadness, the composer, German by birth, English by adoption, perfectly illustrates the twists and turns of the most intense of all the feelings.
With the help of the impeccable string and wind sections of the Concert d'Astrée , the voices jump, move and lament, invoking the characters of Rinaldo, Alcina and Rodelinda, sang at the time by the greatest Italian singers, thus contributing to Handel's exceptional notoriety, from his first London opera in 1711 to his death in 1759.
