Bach, Oratorio de Pâques
Following on from their magnificent Saint Matthew Passion in 2023, the Talens lyriques ensemble is back in Aix for another, very timely, performance of Bach’s Easter Oratorio.
Exactly 300 years after its first ever performance on Easter Sunday 1725, Bach’s Easter Oratorio will ring out over Aix-en-Provence. Performed in Leipzig not long after the premiere of his St John Passion, this piece is inspired by the passage in the Gospel where Peter and John discover the tomb of Jesus is empty, expressing it more as a sacred form of meditation rather than a real narrative. Christophe Rousset, Les Talens lyriques and the Choeur de chambre de Namur know the piece well and will be joined by some of the soloists who also featured in their Saint Matthew Passion in April 2023.
