Händel, Dixit Dominus
evening
Aix audiences have known and loved conductor Laurence Equilbey or many years.
Each year, at the helm of the accentus choir and Insula orchestra, playing on period instruments, she brings original and rich programmes of music to the festival, and this night dedicated to Handel, one of late baroque’s most remarkable composers, is no different. This will be a chance to appreciate “her strings conversing as one voice and her conducting creativity at every turn” (Resmusica).
With a trio of exceptional singers, alongside opera arias with a bel canto feel, she has chosen to perform, the masterful Dixit Dominus, an oratorio written by Handel during a trip to Italy, that, behind the obvious influence of Vivaldi, also reveals certain pre-Mozartian accents.
