Rotterdam Orchestra, Yannick Nézet-Séguin

The Quebec-born Yannick Nézet-Séguin burst on to the French scene ten years ago. Since then, while pursuing a flourishing career across the Atlantic, he has also made a name for himself in Europe. In 2008, he was unanimously chosen by the Rotterdam Philharmonic to succeed Valery Gergiev as music director, a contract that was recently renewed for the second time, running until 2018.
So it is with this almost one-hundred year-old orchestra that he will perform at the 2014 Easter Festival. On the menu for the evening will be a piece from the Russian repertoire, one of the cornerstones of the Rotterdam Orchestra: Tchaikovsky 's Sixth Symphony ; in addition, they will perform Beethoven 's Violin Concerto with one of today's greatest violinists, the Georgia-born Lisa Batiashvili.
