BRAHMS, UN REQUIEM ALLEMAND

SINFONIEORCHESTER BASEL, MAREK JANOWSKI

It is a veritable clash of the Titans as Brahms meets Marek Janowski.

“An old-school, truly German musician, with an uncompromising sense of professionalism” ( Le Figaro ), he has dedicated most of his rich career as a conductor to the German repertoire, as he moved from the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra to the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande having spent fifteen years at the helm of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

His speciality is opera, and in particular Wagner, he knows better than anyone how to marry the textures of the voices with the fleshy sonority of the Sinfonieorchester Basel , so as to exalt the expressive power of the German Requiem (1854-1868) by Brahms , the German composer's symphonic and choral masterpiece, based on seven biblical texts that sing the optimism of the Lutheran faith in the face of man's tragedy.
