The 2017 festival’s guest with two pianos along with Martha Argerich, pianist Stephen Kovacevich, brings his “free fingers and free spirit” (La Croix) back to Aix this year with a 100% Germanic recital, his repertoire of choice.
The poetry of his current performances meets the virtuosity of his early work, fed by a constant process of questioning and a truly original approach to these masterpieces. His impressive discography includes a remarkable anthology of Beethoven’s Sonatas, a favourite with music lovers everywhere. This tempting programme mixes three generations of composers from Ludwig van Beethoven’s last sonatas to Alban Berg’s Opus No. 1 via an assortment of brief pieces by Brahms.
