Monday 6 April - 8:30 pm
Grand Théâtre de Provence

Gidon Kremer is a veritable living legend of the violin and has been a good friend of the Easter Festival since its inception. This year he is back as part of a trio with Mikhaïl Pletnev and Giedré Dirvanauskaitė to perform a piece they truly love, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio “À la mémoire d’un grand artiste”.

The monumental Piano Trio op. 50 by Tchaikovsky combines breadth and brilliance – in particular the second movement’s gigantic theme and variations, coupled with a touch of captivating melancholy. In it Tchaikovsky pays tribute to the composer, educator and pianist Nikolaï Rubinstein. Before being joined by Giedré Dirvanauskaitė, his regular partner and a member of the Kremerata Baltica, Kremer and Mikhaïl Pletnev, star pianist of the Russian school, will perform two relatively nostalgic sonatas, one by Mozart and one by Schubert.
