Hélène Grimaud
Hélène Grimaud, local hero and immense international star, is back at Aix this year for a recital dedicated to Beethoven and Schubert.
It’s been over ten years since we heard her play at the Easter Festival, as one of its earliest supporters. She returns to Aix in 2027 to tackle the exercise of the recital. Hélène Grimaud has always been uncompromising and passionate about her work, and now, in her fifties, adds a certain maturity to her independent spirit. As she tells herself: “It is never comfortable, but that is not the point. You are there to spark emotions and to produce something that, ideally, should give the impression that it is being written as it is being performed.” Since the early days of her career, she has been associated with the German repertoire, and this time she will perform two masterpieces, both of which marked the end of their respective composers’ work: Beethoven’s Opus 111, and Schubert’s Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960.
