Pygmalion musical ensemble, under the guidance of its founder Raphaël Pichon, gives audiences a chance to rediscover the universal masterpiece that is Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death.

On the topic of Beethoven’s Ninth, Raphaël Pichon feels that, “The real question today is perhaps not how to play it, but how to listen to it”. How to get past the obvious nature of the piece, the tired familiarity, to bring all the evocative power back to a symphony that has accompanied all of the greatest moments in European history for over two centuries? Pichon is up to the challenge, as he is an old hand when it comes to creating renewed listening conditions that provide new perspectives on old, overly recognisable programmes. Four top-notch soloists will accompany him in this endeavour, including Beth Taylor and Christian Immler, who played with him at the 2024 Easter Festival.
