Sir András Schiff, a serious pianist of great integrity, makes a rare appearance in France, at least outside Paris. He puts his heart and soul as much into the humanist stance he takes on world issues as he does into his playing.

András Schiff tends to delve deeply into the repertoire he chooses to perform. He likes to grasp all of the nuances, to reveal the underlying logic and to explore the context. Throughout his flourishing, fifty-year career, he has shown a preference for the Germanic repertoire, as well as for programmes dedicated to one composer. For Schiff, Bach is “the greatest composer who ever lived”. “Since the age of 16, I have started my day by playing Bach for half an hour. Bach remains the alpha and omega. In his works, the emotional, intellectual and physical aspects of music interact optimally with each other.”
