One of the world’s most essential piano trios, the Trio Wanderer celebrates the 200th anniversary of the death of Beethoven with a selection of his works specially composed for piano trio.

Beethoven officially began his career as a composer for piano trios and even though he did not go back to the genre again after 1811, this corpus of seven pieces represents a major contribution to the chamber music repertoire. The Trio Wanderer has been playing Beethoven’s pieces for years, in addition to other specially composed works, and the complete works they recorded for Harmonia Mundi is considered to be the recording of reference. This year at Aix they will play Trio No. 4, a piece initially composed for clarinet instead of violin, Trio No. 5 with its magnificent central movement and the high point of the series, Trio No. 7, also known as “The Archduke Trio”.
