Concert
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Jonathan Nott
One of the greatest European youth orchestras (along with the European Union Youth Orchestra, also at Aix this year), the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester represents a formidable breeding ground for young talent.
The orchestra was founded in 1986 by the much-missed Claudio Abbado, and over the years collaborated with Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons... and Jonathan Nott who will conduct the concert at the Grand Théâtre. The British conductor will lead the orchestra in Mahler 's Second Symphony, following the path from despair to glaring light and fervour.
