BEETHOVEN, PIANO CONCERTOS II

Staatskapelle Dresden, Rudolf Buchbinder

The performance of all five of Beethoven's Piano Concertos by Rudolf Buchbinder , makes this truly a special event at the Easter Festival.

The Austrian pianist is used to exhaustive performances, having made his name in the 1960s in the United States before becoming the go-to soloist for the Vienna Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.

With the Dresden Staatskapelle , one of Germany's most prestigious orchestras, he will begin at 11:00 with the three median concertos, with works that retrace the composer's aesthetic transformation, from the second opus that was still speckled with Haydn's atavisms, to the flame of freedom that burns in the fourth, the most intimate of all, via the impetuous majesty of the third.

At 20:30 he continues with the fresh playfulness of the almost poppy Concerto No. 1. He will then move on to the pulsating energy of the “Emperor” , in which the composer's reaction to the Napoleonic invasion can be felt in the orchestral verve and virtuosity, unprecedented for the time. Finishing an exceptional day of Beethoven off with fireworks!
