NELSON FREIRE, MIKKO FRANCK

ORCHESTRE PHILHARMONIQUE DE RADIO FRANCE

The Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire , is one of those pianists whose every appearance is hotly anticipated, like those of his sister in music, Martha Argerich. With his velvet touch and benevolent smile, this exceedingly sensitive performer is a huge fan of the romantic repertoire and of Chopin in particular.

Along with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France , he will play one of his favourite pieces, the Piano concerto No. 2 , a piece that, under the unbridled energy, exudes a “Chopinian” nostalgia through the chords that is moving but sincere.

Between two suites from Rimski-Korsakov (Le Coq d'or) and Stravinsky ( The Firebird) , the maestro Mikko Franck will pay homage to his Finnish compatriot Einojuhani Rautavaara , with Cantus articus , a piece where the orchestra interacts with recordings of birds from the north, spreading an atmosphere of boreal calm over the concert hall.
