Beethoven, works for cello(s)

ANNE GASTINEL, JERÔME PERNOO, XAVIER PHILLIPS

Six of the best cellists in France come together the second of two performances centred around Bach's complete works for the cello.

The composer's five Sonatas constitute the first pieces in a teem.ing repertoire for a cello and piano. Composed between 1796 and 1815, the sonata cycle retraces Bach's stylistic evolution from his early gallant, virtuoso tendencies to the more expressive adventures of his later years. Alongside Easter Festival regulars Jérôme Ducros and Guillaume Bellom, the six soloists will prove that these cello sonatas, less well-known than their violin counterparts, are just as worthy of our attention.
