Bach, St. John Passion

This year, the traditional Bach Passion will be led by conductor Camille Delaforge, who first made her mark during a residency at the Opera Festival in 2024.
With the music world in awe of her “sparkling” (Le Figaro) and “remarkable” (Forum Opéra) conducting skills, Camille Delaforge appears to be in the starting blocks for an exceptional career. This Easter, she directs Il Caravaggio, her period instruments ensemble dedicated to the Baroque and Classical vocal repertoires, with the addition of singers from accentus, who are making a return visit to the Easter Festival. They are singing the same repertoire as the last time the Passion was conducted by a female conductor, Laurence Equilbey, thirteen years ago, for the Festival’s first edition. Camille Delaforge knows the St. John Passion well as in June 2025, she conducted a critically acclaimed version (using modern instruments this time) at the Festival de Saint-Denis.
