Concert

Swedish Radio Orchestra, Daniel Harding

“Mahlerian at heart” (Qobuz), Daniel Harding will perform his repertoire of predilection at the Grand Théâtre de Provence with the composer's Sixth Symphony. The Englishman has been at the head of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2007, one of the country's most important orchestras (it has been conducted over the years by prestigious conductors such as Sergiu Celibidache, Herbert Blomstedt and Esa-Pekka Salonen) an ideal partner for his exploration of the Mahlerian repertoire.

In response to this “tragic” piece – according to Mahler's own subtitle – composed at the very start of the 20th century, he will direct the dusky Four last songs , written by Richard Strauss at the end of his life with the soloist Emily Magee who, in recent years has proven herself to be a first rate Strauss performer.
